Who This Is For
For users who want to understand the income requirements before applying for a property.
What You'll Achieve
ππΌ Understand the "3x Rent Rule" used by landlords
ππΌ Know how to calculate your eligibility
ππΌ Learn what to do if you fall below the threshold
What Is the 2x Rent Rule?
Most landlords in Luxembourg require that your net monthly income (take-home pay) is at least 2 times the monthly rent of the property you are applying for.
Example:
Monthly Rent | Ideal Required Net Income |
β¬1,500 | β¬3,000/month |
β¬2,000 | β¬4,000/month |
β¬2,500 | β¬5,000/month |
How MyStaysCo Calculates Your Eligibility
When you enter your income during the application process, the system automatically calculates your ratio and displays one of three statuses:
Status | Ratio | What It Means |
Strong Match (Green) | 3x | You meet the requirement. Strong application. |
Match (Yellow) | 2x | You are matching the threshold |
Below Threshold (Red) | <2x | Does not meet typical requirements. Search criteria adjustments are recommended in case the real estate agency denies the application. |
What If My Income Is Below the Threshold?
You can still apply. Here are options that may strengthen your application:
Add a Guarantor: A family member or employer who agrees to cover rent if needed
Provide Additional References: Employment letters, bank statements, or proof of savings
Consider a Lower-Priced Property: Adjusting your budget may improve your ratio
Employer Guarantee: If your company is paying for relocation, provide documentation
